Hi,

A buddy just called and he wants to burn audio cd's on his apple imac. So I
told him to go buy an external usb burner.
Then I looked up on newegg a lite-on and, under specs, it had all microsoft
operating systems.
I know zero about apple hardware.
Does this mean you have to buy burners from apple?

Thanks,

sammy

No, it just means that the drives don't come with Macintosh
software.

For certain makes (which ones I don't know for sure), you can just
use the OS support that Apple has.

Check in a Macintosh newsgroup for more details.

Hi Guys,
I didn't have much luck finding an Apple newsgroup oriented around hardware.
Searching the net, etc., I found a little, but not much.

I guess all I can do at this point is tell him to read the box carefully and
if it doesn't mention his iMac, then don't buy it.

Also, I have seen USB "housings," that look like an eide case, for sale for
about $30 that you can put eide drives into. I'm guessing at this. So
that's what I'm asking, do you get one of them in case you have an old
burner laying around that isn't USB, and it bridges the ide 40pin cable to
the 4 or 6 pin USB cable? Then you have in effect an external USB device.
Is this what's going on?

And if it is, will it work on an iMac?

I'm gonna cross post this question because I think I may not be the only one
currently left out of the loop on this.

So, you didn't find comp.sys.mac.hardware.misc or
comp.sys.mac.hardware.storage? You might want to try
http://groups.google.com .

Or find the software elsewhere ...

Yes, it is.

Same answer as before - if the drive is supported by the Mac OS
directly, no problem. If not, you'll need Macintosh software to run it.

You'd not be out of the loop if you actually looked where the
answers are.

If someone has a MAC tell them to bo buy something overpriced from the
apple online store. They were stupid enough to buy a MAC so tell them
to take a hike. I am tired of stupid winey Uppity Up MAC people who
claim to buy a MAC because of some kind of Uppity mental disease they
have. If they are so morally and intellectually better than everyone
else just tell them to sell their MAC and buy a PC. Either that or
tell they what they need to do is to go buy a new G5 System. Actually
IBM makes those 64 bit processors.

nope, but I just looked and found them and subscribed to them.
The mistake I made was I was searching on macintosh instead
of just mac
