Hi, I'd like to get a monitor that supports the 120fps from Xbox Series X and I'd like it either at 1440p or 4k but not too sure if I need a 2.1 HDMI monitor or if a 2.0 is enough. I'd obviously rather get the 2.0 because they're a lot less expensive but if it won't give me the 120fps then I'll go for 2.1. I'm not too bothered about the resolution, I mainly care about the fps.

Thanks in advance.

2.0b can handle 120Hz @ 1440p.

for 120Hz @ 2160p you will need a 2.1 cable.
probably any generic HDMI 2.1 ≤12' will do.

for HDR content with 120Hz @ 2160p you will need a higher quality cable capable of higher bandwidth over the distance.
so the longer you want to run the cable can make a big difference here.

what length are you looking for?

I'm not worried about the cable, just about if my monitor needs to have a HDMI 2.1 input or if HDMI 2.0 would be enough.
