Do I need a case fan?

Solution

Right. I've had a couple of those.
Buying a new case will be far easier than trying to make that old one work well.

A really really really old hp case.
There's this kinda ramp shaped tube that goes over the heatsink.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-case-vl80001w2z I'll be getitng this case. or any other case that allows cable management around that price?

Will my pc overheat If I use that tube thingy?

Big green thing that leads to the back of the case?

A lot old Dells (and others) were made with that. On the original CPU, there was a simple, no fan, heat sink. That air conduit shuttled air from the heat sink to the back of the case where there was a fan pulling air out.

What case is it?

Hp Pavilion 7920.

Oh my.
Don't bother trying to use that case.

10+ years old. Small. Non standard. No real fan mounts.

Yes, it's a 'case', that used to hold a 'PC'. But things have moved on. Old Dell/HP/Compaq cases were decidedly 'non-standard'. You'd have to do a LOT of mods just to make a current motherboard fit.

You will expend far more in brain frustration than the $40 it will take to just buy a new one.
Can you do it? Sure. But only if you are really in love with that case.
