Hello .. I have my Dell Optiplex 760 apart to replace the PSU and I was just wondering if upgrading the CPU would do anything for me ? The current one is a Pentium Dual Core 2.6 GHZ .. From what I have read it looks like I could put up to a 3.3 GHz CPU in ... I'm old .. don't use this for games .. Watch Movies , You Tube , Email , Facebook etc etc .. I'm not afraid to do the upgrade ... I just wonder if I'd notice any difference .. I have been using this computer for approximately 15 years.

If you haven't done so, changing the storage to an SSD would do much more than upgrading the CPU.

Otherwise if everything feels fine to you, there's no reason to upgrade.
Thank you ... I have stuffed all the Ram Memory this one can take already also ... Just "because" ..it seems to run fine for what I do ... Just have to "fiddle" with things ... Thank You For the Reply ... Don

Build a new system if you can afford it, it's going to be a lot faster (6x-12x)and the newness will add to the reliability. We have an old quad core laptop that was painful to deal with. 1 minute boot times if not more was unacceptable.

Moving to an SSD from was pretty easy and made a HUGE difference. SSD's are cheap now. Went with one from Crucial the transfer cable as well and copied the old drive to the SSD. So that's an option.

Just a simple CPU upgrade won't likely make a difference unless you bump the core count in combination with an SSD.

Thank You for the reply ...Good Info ... I see there is a way to monitor how hard your Processer is working .. I will look at that when I get this back together ..Waiting on some heat paste so I can put the cooler I cleaned back in .. This has the Mini Tower Case and is pretty easy to work on ..Thanks Again ...Don
