Do I need an i7?

Hello,

I am a beginner PC builder and want to build a high end PC for 1080p60 gaming. I will be getting a GTX 1070

I mostly do simulations like flightsims, trainsim and some open sandbox games like witcher and kerbal space.

But occasionally, when they release, I do a bit of AAA gaming as well.

My question is d I need to buy an i7 7700(non-K) because of the larger CPU load in simulators or will an i5 7600K will be just fine.

I can only go for the non overclocking i7 because of my budget but can afford an overclocking i5 with a z270 board.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

The i3/5/7 system is just pure marketing. Realistically you only need an i5 but if you are a power user with a billion tabs open and you stream then an i7 would be worth it.

Thank you!

So, I take that the i5 will be more than enough for gaming needs.

For the not-too-distant future.

If enough developers get behind Ryzen and fixes across the software stack produce the expected performance repeatability gains to let Ryzen rise near the top of current gaming benchmarks, the current i5 and possibly even the i7 may get old real fast a year or two from now.
