Hello guys. I'm changing my video card from 960gtx to 980gtx and i'm not sure about that my PSU will be good for new setup. I have Intel Core i5-4570 and my power supply is Cooler Master g450m. I also have one 7200 RPM HDD connected via sata. Nothing more else. I want to overclock my new video card via GPU Tweak app and I want to set there 125% power limit. What you guys think, everything will be okay or do I need to replace to g550m?

Solution
As long as you don't play any game and don't stress the GPU with 3D rendering or such, it will be fine on the 450W PSU.

Reputed reviewers like AnandTech as well as Tom's Hardware have measured the GTX 980's max power consumption as ~250W. Please note that this is under extreme load conditions - your average power consumption will be around ~200W in games. Add in 90W for the CPU and 50W for other uses, and you end up around 400W. Again, this is assuming full load on all components; normal gaming will draw about ~350W.

A 650W PSU is plenty for a GTX 980 with a substantial overclock, and a 750W is just enough for a 980 SLI, if you don't mind not overclocking and having the PSU run at full capacity. A 550W PSU will run a single 980 just...
Quote from NVidia's Website:
Thermal and Power Specs:
98 CMaximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
165 WGraphics Card Power (W)
500 WMinimum System Power Requirement (W)
2x 6-pinsSupplementary Power Connectors

You need at the VERY LEAST 500W for a non-OC card. You'll want somewhere around 750W for an OC GTX980

That's why i'm asking there. There are many various opinions on internet. Some people talk about that 650w will be fine for 980 SLI. Some do not agree with this. Most of people say also that requirements on official sites are set bit too high comparing to real power consumption. I really don't know what to think.

I'd just play it safe. Theres not much worse than finding out your PSU isn't enough.
Try thid EVGA Unit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438028

There is a $10 Special, a $5 Promo Code, and a $25 Mail In Rebate, bringing the price of the unit down to $50

OK, I decided to replace my PSU but i have still a question. Will I be safe with using my current power supply with 980 (without OC) until i will get a new in a few days? I don't want to damage my PC 😛

A 550W PSU will run a single 980 just fine, but again near full capacity with not much OC headroom, so I don't recommend it.

Also, please note that this assumes you use a good quality PSU that is capable of supplying the rated output. I prefer the XFX XTR series and the EVGA G2 series myself.
