Do I need to fill a graphics card all pcie slots?

I am getting a gtx 1070 ti and the model I am getting will have a 6 pin connector and an 8 pin connector, but the 1070 ti only requires 180w so is it ok if I just plug in the 8 pin connector or do I have to plug in both connectors?

It likely wont work without both the 6pin and 8pin plugged in, regardless of how much power the card actually needs.

connect them both, if you need to overclock you'll need the extra power, even if you don't want to overclock it still won't use more power
