Do I need to upgrade anything for better performance?

When playing some games for example Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront on startup they are slow and laggy but once my PC has been on for a while they run fine. Specs:
Intel Pentium G3258 dual-core overclocked to 3.8 Ghz duel-core
AMD Gigabyte Radeon R9 280
8 GB of DDR3 RAM
Stock cooler
Motherboard- Asus H81m-plus

I agree with SR-71 Blackbird. Choosing that dual-core in 2014 might have seemed like a good choice budget wise, but just 2 years later you're experiencing problems. I built mine in 2014, and went with the I5-4670K quad core and (knock wood) are not experiencing any problems.

Alright thanks, what CPU would you recommend?

Depends on your budget, I recommend current generation of Intel (Skylake) with DDR4 ram, so you're looking to change the cpu, mobo, and ram.

You're looking at an I5-6400, 6500, 6600 or 6600k, or the I7 6700, or 6700K

An H170 (if you do not want to overclock-get a non K cpu), or a Z170 mobo if you get the I5-6600k or I7-6700K with plans to overclock.

At least 8gb of DDR4-2400 ram, although many gamers are starting to get 16gb of DDR4 ram

Ok, and would I need a new cooler to upgrade the stock? I was looking at a cryorig h7 as well as the noctua nh u9s

If you get a K cpu, you need to provide an aftermarket cooler. The non K cpus come with the stock cooler. That Cryorig H7 is really nice. I just put it in my wife's computer with an I7-6700k. I have the Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO in my computer. I have cooler envy now 😉

XD, alright thx for all the help
