Hey guys,
This is my current setup
CPU: i7-6800k
GPU: Asus Rog Stryx 1080
MotherBoard: Asus Rog Stryx X99 Gaming
Ram:G-Skill Ripjaws 32GB(4X8GB)
PSU: Seasonic 750 W Bronze Rated
I was thinking of upgrading to the 3080 when it comes out. Do I need to upgrade any of my other components in order to avoid bottlenecking the new GPU?
Thanks in advance

Solution
I would not upgrade your rig. If you have that CPU overclocked just get the 3080 and see how she plays compared to the 1080 on that rig. Then if you want more FPS you can just grab mobo + cpu as you already have RAM and what not. ✝👌😲🤷‍♂️

4 year old CPU... I'd upgrade to avoid a bottleneck.

and keep in mind, with upgrading the CPU, most likely, you'll have to upgrade the mobo too. and check power consumption. Might need to upgrade the PSU also. I upgraded from gtx 1060 to rtx 2080 super last week, and basically had to build a brand new rig. lol

Exactly, only when running a low resolution like 1080p would there be any chance of bottlenecking a 9700k with a 2080S.
When playing a game, how do I know if it's my CPU/GPU thats bottlenecking?
I just upgraded to a 144hz monitor a month back. I'm able to get 144hz consistently if I lower my graphic settings. This means that it's a GPU bottleneck right?

You are correct. I would not call it a bottleneck but that does suggest the gpu is the limiting factor and not the cpu. Although slightly older you have a very good cpu.
