Do I need to upgrade my RAM? And should I switch to DDR4.

Hi all

Two years ago I built my PC. At the time I used CorsairVengeance Pro Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3 1866 Mhz. Now two years on, I was thinking my PC needed an upgrade just so I could get the best and fastest PC possible.

So my question/issue is, do I upgrade to 32GB DDR 1866Mhz (buy two more sticks) or do I upgrade to 16GB DDR4. OR EVEN, do I not upgrade at all?

Are you using all your ram? Unless you do heavy video editing, rendering, or use some other application that needs it you likely aren't. For gaming I am yet to see a game that uses much more than 8gb never mind 16 or 32. For browsing the web you will likly use less than 2gb. So no I highly doubt you need to upgrade, the only way more ram is going to help perfomance is if you are using all of what you have.

You would need a new motherboard and cpu to get ddr4 ram.

+1 Dunlop0078, If you don't encode or render videos and only gaming, web ect. 16 GB ram already overkill.

You will need to buy new mobo and cpu for ddr4.

What all do you do with your rig? You are prob fine with 16GB, though if you do 'need' more it will be best to get a full set of 32GB - there are no guarantees when mixing packages of DRAM - even if they are the exact same model - see my Fiction article, items 2 and 6 in particular
