Do I really need to overclock?..truthfully

Welllllll. I updated the Gigabyte bios to the most current one. I went into BIOS and pushed the 333mhz to 350 to see what would happened, of course nothing, it stayed at the 2.66ghz. When I went to BIOS and into the area for Overclocking, it said there was a boot failure to due to increased clocking or voltage. For a board that has an area especially for overclocking pc, it sure does suck....lol

well every non OEM board has an area for ocing.. it seems as if its not getting enough voltage to push the clocks. ridiculous vdroop? buggy mobo?

DOH! It just dawned on me. I had a problem with my computer when I put it together, so I took to computer shop and he told me the memory chips where not compatiable. So he replaced 2 of my memory with Corsair and left 2 or my older memorys in there(fyi these are the memory from my dell, probably ****). I think that could be problem with overclocking. Going to by 2 more Corsairs today....with luck that should help with OC.

I decided to order my memory sticks from newegg, should be here by Wednesday. The only thing that sucks is the Corsair memory I bought at the computer store here, corsair does not make anymore. So I had to buy 2 corsairs but a different model

The ones I have now are TwinX21024-6400C4 (1 x 2GB)

The ones I ordered are TWIN2X4096-6400C5 (2 x 2GB)

If there is a problem then I will remove the first set, and that will leave me with 4gbs still

Then I can try and overclock again...lol

No luck with the over clocking. I went from 333mhz to 347mhz and it just stayed at 2.66ghz, i'm tempted to try and push it to 360mhz, but I don't want to crash my computer. I think i'll see about getting me another MOBO. I've heard people complain that this board cannot be overclocked. I'll see about going with another make instead of Gigabyte.

Just an after thought. This MOBO is too picky about memory sticks as well. Time to kick it up a notch and get me a better one. So if anyone can recommend a 775 socket intel MOBO that will diffently OC, let me know :sol:

Hey dude, I think that is a good idea. With the plethora of boards out there we need to narrow it down a bit.

Socket 775

You have an 8800 so let’s stick with nvidia chipset

Do you want the option to go SLI or even Tri?

What is your budget?

BTW I just looked at the specs for your board. Decent board for the non enthusiast. Horrible for OC'ing. Also its micro atx which is just.... eeew

Hmmmm budget wise...I would say up to $200 for the board. So which ever board that is considerd the best at that price range will work 😀

I don't know why the hell I got a micro ATX board when my case will handle ATX....can we say Duuuuuuuh

no one needs to OC. except people that do it for a living.

i think it's something you do for fun. but it can eat up a lot of time with all those re-boots and trying different config. settings.

still, i think the OC-able motherboards are good workstation material. if you want something that's rock-solid at stock, buying a known good overclocker is a good way to decide which one to get.

Are you partial to any particular brand? Here are a few I would recommend.

This is a sick board. I have built 3 rigs since December for friends using this board and it has been nothing but rock solid. It looks great and easy to work with. It also gives you the option to tri-sli if you ever go crazy enough to do so. The only thing about this board is make sure you have a boot disc with the P08 bios as you will need to flash. It's a little above your price range but offers a rebate which falls into your budget.

This option is what I am currently using. Despite the bad reviews this has been the most stable board I have ever used. No matter what I do to it, it just keeps going. Right out of the box booted up. No flash or re-format needed. It offers every OC option imaginable and supports SLI. Right now I am using this with an E8400 running 100% stable @4.00. This is a good board for those budget minded. If you take a look at the reviews you will even see mine from September ::

I am not sure why people have such a difficult time with this board. I guess it's a DOA issue. This board rocks. Fired up with an E8400,4gig Corsair,EVGA 9800GTX right out of the box.Fifteen minutes later I was at 4.0 on air.Rock solid stable.I guess it's hit and miss but I definitely hit and I would definitely buy again.

If I had to pick of course I would go with the 780 but if you want to save $100 go with the 680.

Anyway take a look. If you would like a few more ptions let me know.

Kick A$$ !!!!!

Smart move with the PSU as well.

That board is awesome man, you will not be disappointed. Just remember what I said above in regards to the bios. Some of these boards come with the new bios disk and some do not. If your quad does not post or seems unstable don’t fret. A quick flash to P08 is all you need. I would go ahead and create a log on at XFX and download P08 just in case it is not included with your board. Use Magic ISO to burn..

Well have fun with your build and if you have any questions let me know.

Next for you is a video card upgrade. MUHAHAHAHAA

Ohhhhhh yea man! Now that I'm getting me a bigger psu, i want to get a graphics card with 1gig of memory! :sol:

P.S i know you asked about my xfire, i keep forgetting to put my xfire handle on here...lol I'm at work now, but will try and remember when i get home.

I got the mobo and it looks sweet, but when I installed it I could not get windows to install in my computer, kept getting errors, I needed to replace the fan/heatsink it seems 🙁 So now I'm waiting for that to come in the mail...rofl

I7 :heink:

lol Dark ... wrong forum..sure

DOH !!!!! Just curious, why does it seem that you need to replace the fan?

Look on the positive side, your 3/4 the way to having a completely new rig.

New Fan and heatsink is working great BUT now I am getting other things popping up.

1) I have 2 ethernet connections on this motherboard and on my XP desktop it is showing 2 little network computers at the bottom with "X" over them, i need to get rid of that some how
2) In my hardware profile I am getting an "unknown device ?", and I tried updating the driver with every disc I have but nothing gets rid of it.

I think I might need to update my motherboard, but right now I cannot log into the internet at home as my brother has the comcast modem, so I need to set up another internet service and get another modem.

sigh,....never seems to end with problems...lol

Well I've given up on this XFX 780i motherboard. I can't get windows XP to install, I keep getting the dreaded blue screen when installing. Windows installing loads in all the files, but when it gets to the "Starting Windows"....BOOM! blue screen of death, saying to protect my computer from damage it has shut down installation........ I bought a new harddrive, new 700w power supply, new heatsing/fan, all the wires are attached correctly to the motherboard. I went into BIOS and it seems to read the hard drive, it reads the memory, but I cannot install XP for anything.......So I give up. :fou:

Hey bro ..... man you are really not having any luck.

The red icons in your systray are just network connections with no connection. Simply right click on my network places and go to propeties. From there just right click and selct disable on any unwanted connections.

That was the easy problem.

I am really shocked that you are having problems with this board. I have yet to see any problems with the ones I have installed.

This would be easier to fix via x fire. If you want PM me with your x-fire and I will log on later this evening. ( if you can log on using another computer ) If you want the whole world to see just post it here.

I gave up all together with it. I took it to a computer repair shop, when they turned it on, there was a loud whinning sound, they said it would cost over $150 to try and find what was wrong with it, I just took the computer back and gave up. I've already spent close to $1000 already on parts and trying to fix it. I went out lastnight and just bought me a system. So now i gotta sell the parts from the 1 I was trying to build...lol
