Do most graphics card need external power supply?

Does newer gfx cards like gtx 900 series and the latest 1000 series need external power cables? Or can they work at their max with power from pci-e slot?

In case an external supply is needed does it uses the same main power supply as the motherboard ? Or it needs a dedicated psu?

They do require supplemental power.

Most all modern power supplies come with at least one PCIE 6+2 cable.

They need external power from the same Psu that the rest of you system uses.

The exception is the white Asus gtx 950. It doesn't require external power
