Do u think ssd will replace RAM one day?

Just wondering the other day

Do you think that SSD (or some kind of future hard drive) will be fast enough to make RAM and memory as we know it unnecessary?
It would require hard drives to be as fast as memory.

Solution
Absolutely not. SSDs use flash memory which is much, much, much (did I mention "much"?) slower than RAM. They need to use flash memory because that's the kind of memory which retains data without any power.

Flash memory also couldn't stand up to the volume of writes that occur with RAM memory as the system runs.

Solution
Technically, RAM (drive) comes under SSD (Solid State Drive) as well so your question is oxymoron.
As for DRAM replacing flash memory (mainly NAND), like sminlal said, impossible due to how they are designed. There are other non-volatile RAM technologies out there like phase-change RAM, RRAM, MRAM... etc. currently in development that could replace both DRAM and flash memory we know today.

I worked with computers that used magnetic core memory which is non-volatile and which retains it's contents indefinitely with the power turned off. Those computers were mainframes and minicomputers which were not booted all that often, but they were in fact booted from time to time. We had a weekly scheduled maintenance window that we used to reboot the computers as needed.

Windows "sleep" mode pretty much eliminates the need to reboot as long as you're comfortable with the small amount of power required to keep the data alive in RAM. In the case of my system (with 12GB of memory) sleep mode consumes only 8 watts from the wall socket.

I think it can be done on future , now maximum speed of ram is around 10000 Mbps and SSD provide up to 2000 Mbps , in future ssd speed can be improved and it will match the speed of ram but now it is not possible , if it happen it will be amazing
