i believe they may mix bag it higher gpus may use pci gen 5 others less expensive models will run on pci gen 4.

gen 4 isnt even full tapped.

the rumour mill is it will run on pci gen 5.

planing to buy a pimax 12k but the necessary upgrades might be insane. i curently have a pcie 4.0 mobo with a rtx 4080. the idea was to get a rtx 5080 but iff they run with PCIe 5.0 it will be one heck of a deal lol

I wouldn't get too concerned about it, a 4090 only takes a 2% performance hit running at PCIe x16 3.0
It's not anywhere near saturating 4.0 bandwidth and the 5000 series likely isn't either.

They might and I don't really think there's any reason for them not to. Keep in mind the only actual advantage end users will see is if using other PCIe cards are on the table. With PCIe 5.0 you could drop the video card slot to x8 and still have as much bandwidth as PCIe 4.0 x16 otherwise it's meaningless.

It's about the bandwidth available as was mentioned above current top end cards need more than PCIe 3.0 x16, but less than PCIe 4.0 x16 provides. To understand this is helps to know how the bandwidth works:

PCIe 3.0	4GB/s	8GB/s	16GB/s
PCIe 4.0	8GB/s	16GB/s	32GB/s
PCIe 5.0	16GB/s	32GB/s	64GB/s

So as you can see the bandwidth doubles every generation which means peak performance on PCIe 4.0 x16 can be achieved with PCIe 5.0 x8, but the product would have to be compatible with the newer revision to take advantage. So if you're using enough PCIe lanes with other devices (add on cards or M.2 on some boards) that it cuts your primary slot down to x8 if a video card was compatible with PCIe 5.0 you would lose zero performance whereas with PCIe 4.0 you would with top end cards.

PCIe 4.0 will not limit it in any way so long as the interface is running at x16.

excellent thank you. what about the bios? any new tweaking options necessary like 4G and resize bar on a PCIe 5.0 mobo that i would be missing on my current PCIe 4.0 Mobo?
