Do you think 2080 rtx is enough for ultra settings at 1440p for the next 2 years or so?

Currently I am planning to make a big inveatment and buy a new PC, monitor, desk, keyboard, mouse, and headphones. I am hoping to game on the 27in PG279Q monitor. It is going to be quite expensive and with the 2080ti being very hard to find, I am thinking of going for the 2080 instead, which is about 400 dollars cheaper. So should I go all out and wait a bit to buy the 2080ti or will 2080 be enough for ultra quality high fps at 1440p for the next few years? I dont mind upgrading my gpu again in two years or so

I imagine you'll be able to hit 60-120FPS depending on the game at 1440p, though I'd recommend a 1080ti over the 2080 due to better price/performance. Even if it is slightly weaker, if money is a concern, I'd get that. Either way, you should have no issue with 1440p 60FPS.

Thanks for your reply. My initial thought was that with newer drivers down the road, the 2080 will pull away from the 1080ti in performance. However you made me curious about 1080ti, and in my area I found a Inno3D GeForce GTX1080Ti X2 11GB GDDR5X, which is quite a bit cheaper than other variants. Any idea what could be the reason?

If the game being build more specifically for turing srchitecture the gap will widen. Though that might be a rare case. Driver will improve things but i don't think there will be massive improvement on that side. The one that probably makes 2080 pull ahead significantly will be DLSS. Though for a few years 2080/1080ti will be a very strong card for 1440p resolution. As for the cheaper price on that inno 1080ti probably down to brand popularity.

It's cheaper because performance is a bit worse, they were over-manufactured them due to crypto so they have excess stock, and they're being overshadowed by the new cards.
