Hello,

I bought an SSD and case for my gf to use for storing her photos from photography. When it arrived I put the two together (very straight forward) and plugged it figuring it was a plug n play situation.

(SSD) Mushkin Chronos 120G: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226236
(Case) Silverstone Raven: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256077

The first computer was a Macbook (roughly 2010). I plug it in and the computer recognized it but said there was a read error. Though, in the Finder the drive was displayed and labeled appropriately (USB SSD 120G or something predetermined).

The second computer was aa Sony Vaio S with a USB 3.0 port available. When I plugged it in the computer recognized an external device, said it was installing and successfully installed the driver, and that the device was ready to use. It never appeared in My Computer. I tried both USB3 and 2 ports.

The light on the case lights up whichever computer i plug it into.

Any thoughts, suggestions or help? Am I supposed to format the drive or could it have been DOA?

Thanks
Sasha

Unfortunately I may not have the option to hook it up to a SATA - only computers available are two laptops.

On the Macbook- I do have the option to erase and reformat, could the possibly work? If so, which format should I choose?

That makes sense- This will be primarely used with a Macbook. Can I setup it up in Windows (my comp) to use on a Mac? Should there be any problems?

Or, can I just do it from the Mac?

This is great responses, thank you everyone. You nailed it- Here is what I did:

Mac Disk Utility
Partition Tab
Options-> Master Boot Record
1 partition
Fat32

Pops right up on both
