Documents lost after full system restore

Hi,

im not to sure if this is the correct section of the forum to ask this but i hope i can get some sort of help.
Basically my laptop, a sony vaio started playing up, after logging into my account the screen was blank and nothing could be seen, not even the mouse. The safe mode could be accessed so i decided to save all my documents onto an external hard drive. I forgot a few key documents that i had left in the documents folder. I then used the restore cds made to restore the laptop to original state. The documents are now missing.

Is there any way that i may be able to recover the documents that are missing or are they completely erased?

There are a few companies out there that will try to recover data for you (which is very Expensive) but when the restore was run if it wrote over the locations of the files on the hard drive they are pretty much gone.

After resetting to factory (a reinstall of the OS), chances are the data is overwritten in which case there is no way to get it back.

You can try recuva or other recovery software, but it's most likely too late.
