Dodgy PSU crashing my GTX 970? Or is it because I bent it?

I just put a GTX 970 in my PC and when I play far cry 4 it shuts down completely after 20 mins or so. The GPU just has the factory overclock. My PSU is a Corsair VS550 and my CPU is an i5-400.

I imagine this is due to the fact that although I have enough wattage (I think), the PSU isn't exactly an expensive one. I can't replace it free under warranty. If you think it's the PSU, what should I get as an upgrade? 550W or 650W? How much should I spend?

The other possible cause of the problem (Edited out.):
When I installed the graphics card I left a wire blocking one of the GPU fans. I eventually realized after several crashes and removed the wire. The GPU is now slightly bent downwards due to slight pressure on the power cable. Removing the wire however did fix the crashing (but not straight away - 1 day later). It was fine for a few weeks... until today, when I took my PC home in the car (I double-checked that the fans aren't obstructed again).

I did tests during the earlier crashes after removing the wire from the fan, that weirdly showed that the card WASN'T overheating, despite crashing :/

So what do you think? Shitty PSU or something else? Thanks so much for your help! :)

Solution
i don't think it is the psu. though not the best, it is not junk either and you're only puling 70% or so of the available 12 v power so you are well below the safe usage.

i'd guess the early fan blockage damaged the gpu due to overheating and it needs to be replaced.
