As I have said read my entire post before making wild claims of what I am saying or not, in some case's.

I HAVE A X2 6400 B.E. BUILD THAT IS MY GIRLFRIENDS THAT RUNS VISTA 64 BIT AND 4GB OF OCZ GOLD 800MHZ RAM. IT RUNS VERY SMOOTH, VERY FAST, AND RESPONSIVE.

SO, NO HAB, I am not saying you need a Quad core to run Vista 64 bit right, However hardware quality and age of hardware can play a role in low performance on any computer, and I am saying that Croc, posted his findings when comparing XP 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, and Windows 7 64 bit. The times that he got from his testing goes to show and prove that XP 32 bit is not were it is at for what software and task he was doing. 30 mins with XP 32 bit vs 15 min with Vista 64 bit, vs under 10 with Windows 7 64 bit.

You sound bitter Hab,

and it shows in your post and response's. Instead of a open mind, you seem to have a very closed mind when it comes to any change that has to do with Vista, or Windows 7.

That Ok, Its your loss. Stay with XP and enjoy, however some of your opinions are just that, opinions that have no real substance on the the topic at hand, which is clouded by your bitterness from a very short and brief experience you had running Vista. Point is that 64 bit is a step forward, not backwards, so you may not like it, but it is a good thing, and nessary.

Shoot I remember XP running fine in 256MB's when it came out but that was back when you didnt need a firewall and antivirus software was probably 50,000 virus's lighter in the database.... (it ran better in 512MB's though) any more then 512MB's was a waste... Fast forward a few years and 3 service packs later. I would not dream of it.

Even the exact same OS requirements go up over time. Unless you run unpatched and thats just not a good idea unless your not connected to the Net.

Vista's sweet spot when it came out was 4GB's it ran fine on 2GB's but 4GB's made it better.

SP1 Made Vista what it should have been when it came out.

Of course XP was better after SP1 as well, most people tend to look back with rose tinted glasses when they remember XP since before it you had to deal with either 98 or ME.... XP had its teething problems too. I remember brand new games not working or uninstalling a game would format the C drive... fun stuff I tell you. Not that the games thing was XP's fault its just that most developers where not used to codeing for the NT kernal and its driver model was completly different then the old IRQ's and all that jazz...

Vista and Windows 7 have an even more radical driver model where everything is even more seperated from the OS kernal.

Personly its worth it to go to 64 bits now just to avoid half the spyware and adware and virus's thats out there...
Yes you read that right alot of virus's do not work on Vista 64...

I actually shocked myself about 2 days ago I ran spybot on my system for the first time in like 6 month's.
The result ? Nothing totaly clean not even a tracking cookie !

XP I was always running spybot + Adaware + something else I forgot... I remember they called it the holy trinity... cause you needed it to keep your system running right.

Yes hab,

It did need a good cleaning, or a fresh install, however, running XP on 512 mb on any system I work with is not acceptable for me. It is slow compared to what I run everday, I don't care how clean you keep it.

No not a Idiot, she is my girlfriends friend, and I had extra ram laying around that is only 1 gb per stick and have no use for it, given I only run 64 bit and go with 2 gb per stick. Thats what friends do some times, they help eachother out.

what claims about Windows 7,

CROC POSTED ON HERE JUST A FEW POST UP STATING HE HAS TESTED ON THE SAME BUILD, SAME SPECS, TRIPPLE BOOTING XP 32 BIT, VISTA 64 BIT, AND WINDOWS 7 64 BIT. HE GAVE THE TIMES FOR EACH TEST HE DID, IN ALL THREE OS, AND VISTA 64 BIT WAS AROUND 50% FASTER THEN XP 32 BIT, AND WINDOWS 7 64 BIT WAS AROUND 65-70% FASTER THEN XP 32 BIT.

I ALSO HAVE NOTICED THAT BURN TIMES ARE AROUND 25-50% FASTER WITH VISTA 64 BIT AND WINDOWS 7 RC 64 BIT. THOSE ARE JUST TWO THINGS, I AM SURE THERE ARE MORE.

AND btw some people have enough hard drive space in there rigs to properly dual boot, and even tripple boot different OS to see if there are difference's. I have over 3000 gb in my raid 0 array, so I could have all of microsofts OS installed and run them if I wanted.

Not sure where your getting the hundreds of dollars for Vista 64 bit per. Its on new egg for $100 dollars, and has been for over a year now.

Windows 7 RC is free at the moment from MS website.

Also I don't buy a OS for eyecandy, or based on what themes come with it, however the eyecandy is a nice touch, LOL.

^^^+1 and agree

I have not installed spybot on Vista yet with my main build, but at one time I had it on the x 2 3800 939 socket with xp, and it always found tracking cookies, and threats, very hard it seemed to keep XP computers clean. Vista 64 bit, I don't have that problem, my rigs stay clean, I am running AVG free with no issues from day one of my builds.

Someone posting in this thread is high on XP.

A few copies of the WINDOWS XP REDNECK EDITION may have accidentally been shipped outside of extremely rural areas.

If you have one of these, you may need help understanding the commands. The REDNECK EDITION may be recognized by the unique opening screen. It reads: WINDERS XP, with a background picture of Waylon and Willie superimposed on a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Please also note:

The Recycle Bin is labeled "Outhouse"
My Computer is called "This Dern Contraption"
Dial Up Networking is called "Good Ol' Boys"
Control Panel is known as "The Dashboard"
Hard Drive is referred to as "4-Wheel Drive"
Floppies are "Them little ol' plastic thangs"
Instead of an error message, "Duct Tape" pops up

CHANGES IN TERMINOLOGY IN REDNECK EDITION:
Cancel............stopdat
Reset.............try'er agin
Yes...............yep
No................nope
Find..............hunt fer it
Go to.............over yonder
Back..............back yonder
Help..............hep me out here
Stop..............kwitit (WHOA!)
Start.............crank'er up
Settings..........settins
Programs......... stuff at duz stuff
Documents....... .stuff ah done did

Also note that the REDNECK EDITION does not recognize capital letters or punctuation marks. Some programs that are exclusive to WINDERS XP:

Tiperiter.....................a word processing program
Colerin' Book.................a graphics program
Cyferin' Mersheen.............calculator
Outhouse Paper................notepad
Inner-net.....................Microsoft explorer 5.0
Pitchers......................a graphics viewer

We regret any inconvenience it may have caused. If you received a copy of the REDNECK EDITION, you may return it to Microsoft for a replacement version.

I believe there are several good reasons to switch that have been discussed by several different posters,

I think badge summed it up, High on XP, that explains it.

Legit reason to switch to Vista 64 over XP 32 ?

Lack of virus's and spyware...

Not that Vista is imune but there sure is a lot less then there is on XP.

Edit: Might also be worth mentioning that Linux and Mac also have less virus's and spyware then XP.

As in you're brain is the size of an almond?

Your post was funny

Especially so to you.

but you got to learn when to stop.

LOL! More like a peanut.

Kind of stopped the humor in it.

You pulled out you're coloring books?

Although, an ebonics version

Did the Special School district teach some big word? Obviously not reading you're pathetic attempt at posting on the Forum.

without a corny

Corny..look in the mirror if you care to see corny defined.

"You made my night badge, thanks" with a can't help but notice "I'll see you tomorrow okay?"

You expect me to be at the sandbox. Threaten someone else. Reported.

would have been a lot more preferable.

Your eyes roll back in you're head funny when you talk.

And since you have no clue

Is this another of you're a who done it's?, All the prior one's are pretty ignorant.

your gf is probably calling to whoop you for the night.

Nice transition. From you're normal 'tard idenity into your self defeating insecure mode subconsious insecurity.

Wash your hands. And stop pissing in the shower.

Nobody can give me a legit reason for the normal user?

Nobody likes you or this thread.

Okay, I've have had enough, I'm going to go find me an old MAC with the nice light up keys and leopard MAC OSX.

Do us all a favor. and overdose.

As I have said, you still have not responded to Croc's claims to XP vs Vista 64 bit with 6 gb of ram vs Windows 7 64 bit. Instead you would rather dance around the issue and say things that have nothing to do with the topic.

Then you have the issue of XP 32 bit seems to be hard to keep running clean, Vista 64 bit doesn't seem to have this problem.

Lack of support features for certain games, hardware, new grafix card etc. etc.

And that brings us to our next point today kids, " Don't smoke XP"

His claims and my claims of almost a 50% increase in times for doing basic task, like burning files are not basic things that will help increase productivity?

Yes they will be be a issue, but not as big as a problem or issue on Vista and Windows 64 bit.

If your a gamer then yes advancement and new tech is always a + for gamers

not all hardware comes with proper drivers, this is not MS fault, it is a problem with the hardware companys, plain and simple. If they want people to use there products, and more people go with 64 bit, they need to step up and make drivers for there hardware.

Define a normal user please, does a normal user include people who do other things with there computers besides just surfing the net? I believe it does.
