bus/core speed. When a single processor is installed, it must be in the socket labeled CPU1.

I'm not aware, so, can you give an example of a 2 CPU board that would not run with single CPU?

It depends on if your bios is up to date or if you have the correct bios, and some old multiple CPU boards don't have single CPU support but I haven't found one yet that doesn't have that support.
