Hey guys I really wanna buy a 3080 but I’m seeing mixed emotions online bout the 3080 being paired with a 3600 what’s your guys thoughts I’m looking to play cod mainly and streaming

Solution
The thing is tho since I have a b450 I don't have PCIe gen 4 support meaning in the future ill need a new mobo Right? if not ill honestly just ditch the whole new GPU idea and just cop a new CPU
You don't need PCIE 4.0 for a faster GPU like an RTX 3080. Right now not many product can take advantage of PCIE 4.0 and most end users have no need for PCIE 4.0 except in certain situations, like if you want to use both an M.2 NVMe SSD and add-on PCIE cards like a video capture card. When you install an M.2 NVMe SSD on your B450 motherboard, all of the PCIE x1 and x16 slots, except for the top x16 slot for your GPU, will be disabled and all that bandwidth is used by the NVMe SSD. You would need an X570 or B550 motherboard with PCIE 4.0...
Yes I really wanna use nvenc and I’m playing 1080p maxed out settings I wanna play around 200 frames

Well nvenc will put some more load onto the GPU, although 1080p is pretty low res for a 3080 so that is going to shift the load back towards the cpu.

It will run ok, but you are probably going to be held back a bit by the cpu. That said, if you have at least a B450 motherboard you do have the option to upgrade the cpu at a later date.

You're at 1080p, that's the problem.

You should see some of the other RTX 3080 + 1080p threads here and on other sites. They found out the hard way.
An improvement over older gpus, sure, but a wasted one.

Better to max out the gpu than it is to a cpu. The former just isn't happening at that resolution.

And I d plan on upgrading my cpu just not just yet

Yeah - AMD have said Ryzen 5000 series coming to B450 motherboards in the new year, so you will have a good option to upgrade to without having to change your mobo. R5 5600X is on par or faster than a 10900K so that should be as good as anything to keep a 3080 fed.

You could also look at running games at a higher resolution and down-sampling back to 1080p to get a better image (that would load up that 3080 a bit more).

Edit: The main 'issue' with that combo is for 1080p you would get a pretty similar experience with a 3070 imo - so the 3080 doesn't look to be worth it. That said if you want to run 1080p with full ultra RTX turned on in the latest games you will probably find you can use the extra power - and you have option upgrade the cpu down the road.

I'm not trying to be rude when I say this, but I honestly find it a little funny that people insist on getting the top of the line GPU or second fastest GPU of a new series just to play 1080p at 240fps, only to discover that they have no change in FPS compared the previous generation of cards or the users previous GPU.

If you are going to get an RTX 3080, pair it with at least a 1440p 144-240Hz monitor. At 1440p, you start to use more GPU than CPU and at 4k you move most of the bottleneck to the GPU. If you are only going to play at 1080p, you likely don't need a faster GPU than the RTX 2080 Super/ 2080 TI/ 3070 or whatever will be the AMD RX 6000 equivalent, to reach up to 200+fps. All the new CoDs seem to be more CPU bound than GPU, so an RTX 3080 even at 4k is likely going to be overkill. I would invest in an RTX 3070 or 3060 TI or RX 6000 equivalent and then put the saved money into a Ryzen 5 5600X or 5800X. Edit Upgrading ram instead of the CPU would also be a good investment if you only have 1x16GB or 2x8GB 2133-2666. 2x16GB 3600 CL16 would be a great start and most likely enough ram for the next 4 years.

I’m kinda stupid but your saying even tho I plan on upgrading my cpu witching the next like 6 months I still shouldn’t do it because If not mistaken A bottleneck is when a CPU is being used anywhere from 70% to 100% and the GPU only 50 to 70% so if my CPU isn’t being maxed out where is the bottleneck?

What GPU do you have right now? If you have a good enough GPU already, you may be better off just upgrading the CPU first for higher fps with the same graphics settings, unless you wanted to fully max out the graphics settings with a new faster GPU first.

What do you guys think I just don’t wanna buy a new cpu then next year when new cpus come out my mobo won’t be compatible for any further gen
The Ryzen 5000 series is very likely the last that will work on X470 or B450 motherboards. There will either be one more CPU generation on socket AM4 that will work on X570 and B550 motherboard or AMD will release a new socket on the coming 600 or 700 series chipset motherboards for Ryzen 6000.

The RX 6000 series hasn't been released yet and there are no real reviews or benchmark data, so don't decide on what you are buying just yet. Also, the bios updated required to use Ryzen 5000 on MSI 400 series motherboards hasn't been released yet and we don't know when it will, so even if you did buy a ryzen 5000 CPU now, you can't use it without a 500 series motherboard.

Even after what was said about the RTX 30 cards and the FP32 shader redesign, you still want a 3080 for 1080p...

If you stay at that resolution, you quickly get to a point - diminishing returns - where the latest and greatest gpus < faster cpu and faster ram.
The 2080Ti already does this with 1080p, and you're considering an even stronger card than that.
