Question Does abit i-s71 motherboard support sata ssd ?

hi i bought a few days ago acer speedy ssd 240gb and when i installed it on a very old motherboard abit i-s71 with old bios the ssd is read in bios settings but when boot up it keeps showing (-) with the hdd led not blinking and the device stays like this is there any settings can modified or that the memory is incompatible with the motherboard?
