i am going to make a build with the amd fx8350 however when i was looking for motherboards for it they all only have PCI Express 2.0 x16 ports. i want to put a GTX 970 in it however it says that that uses a PCI Express 3.0 x16 port. this confuses me as on pc part picker it says they are compatible. would i be able to use the 970 in a PCI 2.0 slot?

Solution
Yes you can still sue the gTX 970 on pcie 2.0 slots. The card is backwards compatible with 2.0, it will run at pcie 2.0 on your motherboard. Performance difference is negligible.
AM3+ motherboards does not support 3.0 (natively).

Performance difference is negligible between 2.0 and 3.0
