the synthetic benchmarks on the quadfire 295x2 look amazing.

I know people have had issues with game support, but my question is, has it cleared up now that the card has been out for a year?

Is anyone still experiencing issues with just 1 295x2?

yeah thats the general consensus i keep getting.

So for 4k, which would you recommend? a single titan x? money isnt an issue but i plan to build a whole new system so id like to keep the gpu budget around $1500 US. im open to red or green and or sli and xfire, but would like a real world "i have 'X' card/s and they work amazingly on high 4k settings" type answer.

Given your budget i'd go for the 290x 8gb version in trifire.

The scaling does take a hit in trifire but not on the same level as quadfire. The review I read on the 295x+290x on hard ocp found it to be a great setup for real world gaming, and 3 8gb versions would be a step up from that.

If money isn't an issue then the Titan X would be the best option, in my opinion because of the 12GB VRAM, which you may need in the future for 4K, especially if you plan to SLI later on. It would have a lot less issues than trifire as it's a single card and if you got another later it would still work better than 3 290xs.

taking your replies into consideration i have come up with this -

I have been flip flopping over 2x sapphire 290x tri-x which is a deal and a half right now for a combined total of $719 on newegg. that coupled with the soon to be released 31" Samsung UE850 freesync 4k native, sounds like a good setup.

- however -

The titan x with its 12gb single gpu single card and nvidia clean drivers paired with the acer 28" gsync xb280hk doesn't sound bad either.

total estimated cost of the amd setup (samsung monitor still not priced/released) $1400
Nvidia setup cost $1800
Price difference is negligable so it would really come down to performance and about 3" worth of viewing screen.

Thoughts on either setup?

will be paired with an R5E and a 5930k.

EDIT: the 2 290x are the 8gb versions

That review is the exact reason I posted the last post. The 2 8gb 290x seem to do very well in comparison to any card and card setup out there. They seem to work just as good or better at 4k than even the 295x2 from other pages due to the 295x2 having only "4gb of vram" until dx12 possibly fixes said issue. and since the 295x2 doesnt scale in xfire anywhere near the 290x... the decision is fracking tough.

Them "God, what is the meaning of life?"
Me "God, what is the best in graphics card/monitor sync tech right this second?" :)
