Does changing PC parts in your computer factory reset OEM Windows 10?

Hi guys,

I am currently running an ancient FX-8350 in my PC. I was hoping to remove my MoBo, CPU and RAM and install a brand new I5-7600K.
However, I have read on certain forums that if I install a new motherboard, Windows 10 could deactivate me.
Is this true?
If so, do you know if the PC would self factory reset or if I would have to reinstall Windows?

Windows OEM and System Builder licenses are tied to the motherboard. Only full version Retail keys are automatically trasnferable (if you did not deliberatly pay more retail key then that is not what you have)

Now with windows 10 you can link your account to a Microsoft account (live, hotmail. etc) and then you can transfer it.


No, your PC wont auto reset itsef to factory or anything. However it will likely not boot, or if it does it will certainly not be stable.
For that a huge of a hardware change you will for sure hands down need to reinstall windows and all of your programs, no way around it.

Same exact board model is perfectly ok (usually dont even need to reactivate windows)
Same chipset will USUALLY work fine just need to install new drivers
Different chipset is hit or miss
Different cpu family is almost always going to be unstable or no boot
Different cpu brands for sure is not going to work.
