does crossfiring an hd 7990 work with msi r9 280x 6gb edition?

i have a crossire compatible mother board (msiG45) and would upgrade my psu (what psu would i need to?) i have an i5 4670k and 8gb 1333mhz ram

yes that would work. but be warned 3 way crossfire (or SLI) is not always pretty. I would say get about 1000 watts or more for that set up. I would look into the EVGA supernova series.
