Long story short I have the Optiplex 760 Mini Tower, and I couldn't find an answer if I could get a quad-core processor in. My motherboard is 0M858N, some claim that it won't support q6600, some claim it will... I'm not sure anymore.

Any help appreciated

Above the post that you quoted, he wrote "Thank you very much for the heads up. I have been doing some research and I am assuming since your saying that I should go with a intel dual quad core that this optiplex has the 775 chipset and if so this is the best one I've found: intel q9650"

Then in the post that you quoted he wrote "I installed the quad processor.. Didn't get your message until after you have posted. The quad processor didn't work...." I have to presume the Quad is the one that he found, but we don't know if it was tested good in another system.

The statement that the Q35/Q45 chipset doesn't support Quad processors is incorrect:: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/Q45_Express.html Support has to be provided in...

That's why I said I'm not sure - few sites claim it does support Q6600, few say it doesn't.
Also, I could probably get a processor from the list, but I don't want to pay $50 and for it to end up not working

Where does it say that DuaneJ tried Q6600? He said that he tried a "quad processor"? Also "For Reference: LGA 775 Quad Core will NOT work in North Bridge Intel Q45/Q43" - what is that? Q45/43 doesn't work with quad cores?

Can you quote where he says that he tried the Q9650?

I'll try something with my 0M858N motherboard that isn't Q6600 (and Q9650 if you quote it).

The statement that the Q35/Q45 chipset doesn't support Quad processors is incorrect:: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/Q45_Express.html Support has to be provided in the BIOS and the VRM has to be good enough.

http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/optix/optiplex_760_spec_sheet_en.pdf?dgc=BA&cid=299605&lid=5718620&acd=123092226602942957c94940922&ven3=104103104257089029 shows that Q9000 processors are supported, but they don't specify which motherboard is required.

More that don't specify which motherboard is installed:
Q8300: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/dell/optiplex_760/309691/
Q9550: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00E79XLV0/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Unfortunately nowhere could I find evidence that your motherboard officially supports a Quad.
