Does it matter which 6pin port I use on the PSU?

This is more of a general question, but I'll feature a specific example relevant to me.

On a modular power supply (Corsair cs650m) there will be ports with labels above them. I am curious about the 6pin's. My PSU has one with no writing above it and then two with peripheral & sata above.

If I was to power a gtx1080ti reference model that requires an 8pin + 6pin. Can I use any of the 6pin ports on the PSU? are they all the same or I cant use the ones that have peripheral & sata above?

The important thing to look at is the cables. Do you have cables that came with that psu and have 6-pin connectors at both ends (one for plugging into the video card and one for plugging into the psu)? I'd be surprised if you did, considering that psu has 8-pin ports for pci-e power. More likely you have cables with 8 pins, one end keyed to go into the psu, and the other end (or two) keyed for connecting to either 6-pin or 8-pin pci-e connectors on your video card. The cables keyed to go into the 6-pin "peripheral & sata" ports you see there will have sata and 4-pin molex connectors instead of pci-e connectors.

Yes the cables I have are 6+2 and there are two of those headers coming off the one cable from the one 8 pin port on the PSU so I could power the gpu from one port.

I'm still wondering if i used two cables for the gpu, one from the 8 pin slot on the psu and then a 6 pin from any 6 pin port? My question is really about the 6pins and id they are different to each other?

the 3 6 pins are used for your molex and sata connectors. the top 8 pin is for your graphics card and the lower 8 pin is for your CPU. CPU cable should have a 8 pin on one end and a 4+4 on the other
