Hello!

As you can see by the title im wondering if my motherboard is compatible with that type of ssd as the boot drive

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C9H8MHD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My motherboard is the ASUS Maximus Ranger VII

I have the SSD plugged into the m2 connector but it doesnt seem to show up anywhere (bios or windows) so i was wondering if it just isnt compatible with my motherboard or im just doing something wrong.

If not would it work with an adapter?

Thanks!

Solution
I think the first thing you need to do is make sure you have the latest bios version installed. It seems there may be some issues with M.2 being recognized on these boards with early bios versions.

Also, make sure you DO have a PCI M.2 device, and not an SATA M.2 device, because SATA M.2 is not supported on this board.

ok i probably dont have the latest version installed, ill go see if that works. Thank you for such a quick response. Is there any trick to updating bios or can I just get it off their site?

Yes, you will need to download it from their site. Unpack the download file onto a USB thumb drive, go into the bios, run the bios update program and select the update file you placed on the drive. There are specific instructions on updating on the motherboard product page here:

BIOS update is here:

Verification that there should be an M.2 PCI drive option in the bios is here. I can't find the exact setting in the motherboard manual, but every board I've worked on that supported M.2 PCI drives had an option in the bios somewhere, boot menu, onboard devices, something, for enabling that type of drive.
