does my motherboard work?

got a mobo with cpu and ram from a trusted school friend and used it in a new pc build. the build is very rough as it is just to see if the mobo works before i get a new gpu. it has preinstalled cpu and ram like i said and im using an old 8800 as a temporary gpu. when i tirn the pc on things like leds, fans of the cpu and gpu spins but nothing comes up on my monitor when i plug it directly into the gpu or mob. just wondering if the power means the mobos fine but im doing something else wrong or if it could still mean the motherboard shit the bed as i had to carry it (protected) in my bag at school. thanks

never mind, turns out i didnt have the 12v connecter or summin in the right place. although all of a sudden about 20 mins after it wouldnt turn on at all ill just put that down to my crappy psu
