My new Gigabyte GeForce GTX980ti 6G seems to require two 8-pin sockets and on the above CPU I can only see two six-pin plugs only one of which seems to have an extra 2-pin attachment.

Does the XFX model have two 8-pin capability or do I now need a new PSU?.

I thought I checked compatabily between my existing CPU and the card before buying the latter, but seems not to be the case.

Grateful for any help as I stare at an open case, Thank you.

Solution
You are correct the original XFX 550W core model only had.

1 x 4+4pin CPU +12V 6 x 4pin Molex 1 x 6+2pin PCI-E Power 1 x 6pin PCI-E Power 1 x 8pin CPU +12V 2 x FDD Power 9 x SATA Power
accordingy to the specs page that psu should have 3 x 6+2-Pin (which is an 8 pin) connections. you should be good to go with that psu no problem. plenty of power for the card.

the "extra 2-pin attachment" is hat you add to it to make the 8 pin. they always do this so it can be either a 6 pin or 8 pin as needed.

Thanky you so much for replying so quickly but I am a tad shy on technical stuff.

The extra two-pin attachment is where?

Would I have tucked it out of sight because I didn't use it originally when assembling the computer.?

I see the GeForce comes with a little doodah that seems to convert six-pins to eight. Is that what I'm looking for and if so does it make any difference how the 8-pin is inserted (right to |left/)

Please excuse my hesitancy.

apparently there is an updated model and you don't have it. so your first observation of the power connections would be the right one as sr-71 has pointed out.

so a new psu would be needed for the gpu. sorry did not know there was an older version :)

Thank you both- I understand, Math.

I hope replacing my PSU doesn't mean I have to replace the mother board or CPU. H87-G43 and i5-4670 (LGA 1150. Any suggestions re the PSU- I hope I can take the existing set-up apart and put the connections back where they should be! Off for tea now. Your help is appreciated.

Just a short update to say a final thankyou - I managed to switch my PSU and replace my Graphics card, and am now enjoying Witcher 3 on my new X34 Predator G-sync.

The PSU arrived more than a week ahead of schedule from Novatech. Took me an afternoon to replace the PSU never having done so before, but I managed. The full modular set-up did help in the installing of the new PSU but if step one is the fixing of the PSU to the case, I suggest not plugging anything in to the PSU till the other ends are all connected or you run the risk of not being able to read the captions above the sockets. I spent ages wondering why my second graphics lead wouldn't fit what I thought was the available VGA2 socket until I realised the vacant socket was behind the first one and deeper in the case and I couldn't see it. Silly me.

Thanks again.
