If I were to do a new super-crazy-balls-to-the-wall type build, that included a Ryzen processor, would THIS work? ===> http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h100i-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler

Or would it need something more?

ALSO is it safe to say that any of the AMD FX or any of the high-end i5s or i7s can be cooled either with said cooler or with just the stock heatsink? (Yes I know that they're different chipsets, don't worry)

Solution
the general concensus is that no one should buy that fx cpu becuase it doesn't offer what most people want

also it uses lots of watts and is not cheap

any ryzen should be 30% faster than it or more, the r5 1600 should beat it hard, and costs just 40 dollars more, and comes with the cooler, so you save money there

the am3 platfrom right now is deat, only am4 is what will be sold from now on

the h100i, i have read pople saying that is a noisy watercooloer, not sure if that is true

remember that am3 cpus use ddr3 ram, new am4 cpus use ddr4 only

that is something to consider
Yes the h100i would work, although if you are not going to do an extreme overclock then an air cooler will work just fine with fairly similar performance.

Frankly closed loop coolers the h100i dont really off much over air coolers to warrent the massive price difference.
My advice is to stick with air if you are not going to all out with a custom open loop setup.

Does Ryzen need water cooling? No it does not but can you use water cooling on it? Yes you can. You could use the cooler you provided a link to however make sure you look at corsairs compatibility list because some of their coolers require an upgrade kit before it will work but that doesn't appear to be the case with this one. Finally yes you would be able to use that on all of the CPU's you mentioned since the AIO kit comes with the required support brackets.

the ryzen 1800x does not come with heatsink, so you need a cooling solution, if you plan to overclock it hard, yes, a good watercooling solution is required

same mostly applies to 1700x

1700 comes with a heatsink, that one can work with some overclocking without much problems, but also depends on how hot is the place where you live

the fx line, some models will come without cooler too, so you need to buy a watercooling solution or a good heatsink, same for some intels

in general terms, if you don't overclock, the stock cooler it comes with the cpus that have one, will work well

any reason I wouldn't just go with this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GPJFEJC?tag=amz-mkt-opr-us-20&ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-def00-other-nomod-us000-pcomp-feature-pcomp-wm-2

Also would that processor above work with this? http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h100i-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler

I've hear that that particular amd fx can get super hot with a regular heatsink
