I want to build a new computer and have been seeing a lot of sites advertising Corsair Obsidian 1000D as the best case you can buy but it is a large tower.

My question is, is there any point buying that case over let's say... NXZT H710i?
And no, I do not plan on having 2 systems in one case, not even going to have 2 GPUs. The mid tower should be able to fit everything.

Do you guys buy full towers even if a mid tower would suffice?

You should get a PC case that’s the right size for your needs...no someone else's.
It should be spacious enough to house the components you have chosen (motherboard, cooler, storage, etc) and have the features you need and like (RGB, tempered glass, cable management, etc. ).

Cases are pretty subjective. Some people want extra space for easier building and future upgrades. I personally did a significant downsize on my actual build with a NCASE M1 @ 12.7 l. Yes its tiny especially for a custom loop, but damn it looks good on my desk.
If you dont need more than one pci-e slot why go bigger than itx? NZXT H210i is a nice case.

To answer your question - You don't need an enormous case to have good component temps.

I hate that ATX motherboards have regained the majority market. mATX is perfect. 4 RAM slots (unlike mITX) but still enough expansion slots for a dual slot GPU + 2 extra slots. The drawback of mATX was case sizes. It was too tightly sandwiched between large mITX cases and small ATX ones.
The Silverstone TJ08 (30L), SG10 (23L), and PS15 (26L) and Fractal Design Mini C (33L) are perfect examples of highlighting the strengths of mATX size.

Obsidian 1000D = 148L, and H710i = 59L
