Does The Elgato Lower Performance?

Hi, I have a VERY bad PC, I have a GeForce 210 with a Intel Core 2 Duo.. So I get pretty good FPS on minecraft but when I record I go down 20-30 frames so would the Elgato put my frames down or no because its not a software its a separate piece of hardware?

Instead of wasting ~$150 on an external recording/streaming device, why not spend that money on a newer GPU like a GTX 750/750Ti, which will allow you to record with basically no performance loss via Shadowplay?
