Does the EVGA 970 FTW card still have the coil whine?

Hello Tom's Community,

Does anyone know if the EVGA 970 FTW graphics card still have the terrible coil whine to it? I read that EVGA fixed this problem but I am not too sure. I also read that the coil whine was directly related to have extremely high frame rates in older games, and if you cap your FPS at 120 in the evga precision software, the coil whine goes away.
I am currently in the step up program through EVGA, and have to make a decision by the weekend if I am to get the card. I currently have the EVGA 770 SC card.
I am torn on this decision because I don't want the bad coil whine. Any help on this decision will be a great help to me.

Thanks

You are quite right in my case. I'm retired and computers are a major hobby for me. I do like the latest and greatest and I probably waste more money than I should, but a fast, smooth running rig is what I like.
I have an Asus STRIX GTX 980 will NO coil whine (at least I can't hear it and my hearing is excellent for higher frequencies), where my Asus 780Ti DCU II has a some, though not distracting.

You people baffle me.... rpj you upgraded from a 780ti to a 980? -_- is this just some "need" to have the "newest" GPU or some shit? both you and the OP basically doing the same thing...

GeForce GTX 980

GeForce GTX 780 Ti
8.0

haha, well I have asked EVGA. I talked to one of the guys there and he actually just started noticing the coil whine on his 970. But he has had it for over a year. So I a having huge doubts.
And the 970 way outperforms the 770. So why wouldn't I step up to the 970 when it barely costs me anything? lol

970 by no means WAY outperforms a 770

GeForce GTX 970
8.2
GeForce GTX 770
7.3

Its fair enough if it won't cost you anything, But you will notice minimal improvements... Pay abit extra and get a 980, or go for 2x 770's, so u NEVER need to think about this again.

or even a 780ti, Whichever ends up being cheaper.

GPUBOSS is not a great site for comparing the performance of GPUs, the OP is justified in upgrading, as for coil whine I heard that Nvidia has released a rev1.1 board of their 970s which reduces coil whine. I would ask and see if they have the newer 970s
