Does this sound like faulty on board graphics?

Hi, i have the i7 3770k processor and am using the on board hd4000 graphics at the moment until i can afford a gpu. Sometimes when i play a movie the picture is all distorted (squares, wrong colours) and plays in slow motion for a minute or so then plays fine. Also sometimes i get a loss of signal too my monitor for a second or two, then it comes back on. Can you tell me if these are signs of the on board graphics going bad or is it something else? All my drivers are up to date and this is a new build PC, a couple of months old. Thank you for any help

Is your monitor set to its native resolution? as this can sometimes cause effects like this

It does sound like bad video, but it may be just something running slowly or overheating. Try running a video benchmark like 3DMark and see if that runs though OK
