Question does USB3 -HDMI adapter also transmit sound to TV via HDMI cable?

I was hoping to connect desktop to TV. Chromecast does not seem to work.
I noticed a USB - HDMI adapter. could I plug is a HDMI cable from TV to the adapter and also get audio?
I guess I could connect an audio headphone cable from desktop to TV, but I was hoping to only use one wire....

Or might have to get an HDMI output card & software for the desktop?
Win10 Desktop does have VGA/DVI output ports.
