Question Domain Name on Control?

Dear Techies,

We are a startup. We need to have our own website on the .com domain. We all are strong in one Decision. We don’t want our website name booked through anyone else (Like GoDaddy, etc). We need to know whether an individual himself can book a website name on .com domain independently. The main reason for us to not go with any other website provider is that they may charge/put any price later once after our website got popular. We don’t want to depend on anyone for to keep/maintain our website. Is it possible? Please advise on the steps required. Thank you.

P.S:
I have searched on google but not able to get a clear-cut idea on what we require. Hope you understand. Thank you for reading this post. Please help.

You do realize that you can take your domain name from one registry to another? This should alleviate your fears of the cost changing. Along with the fact that if a registry did that to their customers they would lose all their business to a competitor.
