Domain Server Help

Hi, just wondering if anyone knew how to break into a domain server to get the password. Just for anyone who is conserned, the reason why I am trying to figure this out is because I Have been offered a job, but the prerequisite is to show if I can break into the domain. I currently do not know the IP, Operating system or specs. If anyone knows how to do anything to find the IP, operating system or find a way into the domain, I would really appreciate it!!
