Question Dont know what ram to get for my asus b450m mobo.

I have 2x4gb ram sticks from G.SKILL. They are pretty good and dandy. Just when I put them in, it says on windows that theres only 6gb of ram available for me to use. There are 4 ddr4 ram slots on my pc I believe, but last time I tried to put the ram on a different slot, it just didnt work. I cant open my computer and check again right now but I might be able to later. Is my mobo defective? Or am i just a dummy? There are 2 different colors. 2 grayish slots and 2 black slots. It looks like I can only insert ram and have it work on the grayish slots.
