For clarification, here are some examples of what this means in the real world. Doom II, for example, makes extensive use of stencil shadows.

You should buy a 6800 Ultra, along with a new 500W power supply, so that you can play Doom 2.

Hold on a minute, are you guys telling me that an old Doom II DOS game wont be able to run correctly on a Radeon 9800 PRO???? It works fine on my nVidia TNT2!!! Why the hell is that! Is there no fix????? Its crazy that a card I have been advised to purchase by you guys wont be able to handle a simple task like an MS-DOS Doom II game!?!?!?!

How crazy!!!?!?! Someone please clarify this!!!

PC Spec: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ running at 1.25ghz, ECS K7S5A Motherboard, 768MB SDRAM PC133, Sparkle nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 32MB AGP Graphics Card, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 6.1, Windows Me

LOL.. Doom & Doom2 will run exactly the same whether your pc has that TNT2, or a Radeon, or anything in it... Doom doesn't use graphics hardware - it's all software rendering, so don't panic!!

This whole thread is just poking fun at the THG article linked to in the first post. The reviewer clearly meant to say DOOM III, but said DOOM II instead...

LOL nice find. The link shows an error404 now so I can't get another laugh reading it myself.

But we all know your Radeon 9800 problems were caused by your stubborness to switch to ATI drivers. No matter which of your favorite Detonator's you downloaded, you still couldn't get the Radeons too work.

Yeah I know... But I could see the guy buying an FX5200 over a 9800Pro based on it's inability to run DoomII.

I couldn't have it on my conscience that I'd just stood by and let something like that happen..

I'm just too much of a nice guy I guess.

I didnt mean for it to portray me pushing NV over ATI, I just used 9800 Pro becuase I had one and its incredibly fast, and ludicrous to not be playable under Doom 2.
As if 16pipes are necessary

I even changed it for you guys even tho its now a false statement.. hopefully the ATI hounds of hell that exist in this forum will be appeased.
My god people, not EVERYTHING I post is anti-ATI.
Its still funny, but surely ruined forever now all because we had to save ATIs sacred name!
