:--------------------------------------------------------------
: DoomRL (v.0.9.6 (beta)) roguelike post-mortem character dump
:--------------------------------------------------------------
:
: Andrew Kosnikov, level 6 soldier, killed by a Cyberdemon
: on level 20 of the Phobos base.

Very, very stupid death, seeing as how I could have won.

: He survived 95234 turns and scored 27256 points.
: He found the Phobos Arena.
: He stormed the Chained Court.
: He ventured into the Halls of Carnage.
: He fought on Hell's Arena.
: He invaded Spider's lair.

Shouldn't that be "Spider's Lair"? (Double capitals like the other
special levels.)

:-- Statistics ------------------------------------------------
:
: Health -1/50 Experience 21952/6
: ToHit +0 ToDmg Ranged +2 ToDmg Melee +2
:
:-- Traits ----------------------------------------------------
:
: Tough as nails (Level 3)
: Son of a bitch (Level 2)
: Cateye (Level 1)
:
:-- Equipment -------------------------------------------------
:
: [a] [ Armor ] red armor [1/4] (19%)
: [ Weapon ] rapid chaingun (1d6)x5 [25/50]
: [c] [ Boots ] plasteel boots [8/8] (97%)

Found a number of special weapons, three of which were useless because
they were pistols, but also the chaingun and see below.

:-- Inventory -------------------------------------------------
:
: [a] red armor [4/4] (89%)
: fastload double shotgun (4d4)x2 [0/2]

This was a nice find, unfortunately, I ran out of ammo. Spider's Lair
drained my BFG and I still had to shotgun a lot of natives. Scary
level.

: [c] BFG 9000 (8d8) [10/100]

Gave the cyber what I had left from this before resorting to the
chaingun.

: [d] assault shotgun (4d4) [0/4]
: [e] 10mm ammo (x100)
: [f] 10mm ammo (x78)
: [g] large med-pack
: [h] large med-pack
: large med-pack
: [j] large med-pack
: [k] phase device
: [l] phase device
: [m] large med-pack
: [n] thermonuclear bomb
: [o] large med-pack
: [p] large med-pack

This is what was stupid. I chose to spend another round shooting when
I had a huge stockpile of healing just for this purpose. If I ran out
of ammo and he was still kicking, I had the nuke so could force a
draw.

:-- Kills -----------------------------------------------------
:
: 49 former humans
: 29 former human sergeants
: 14 former human captains
: 11 imps
: 45 demons
: 26 lost souls
: 22 cacodemons
: 10 barons of hell
: 13 hell knights
: 19 arachnotrons

But no cyberdemon. LOSER!

:-- General ---------------------------------------------------
:
: Before him 3 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
: 1 of those was killed.
: 1 of those was killed by something unknown.
:
: Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdeamon was killed already!

Okay, it can be spelled "demon" or "daemon", but you should pick one
spelling and "deamon" is always wrong.

: Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
: 1 killed the bastard and survived.
:

Still a fun game, still an excess of barrel explosions. (Although I do
like the idea of laying down the occasional row of barrels rather than
a pure random scattering, so they'd be lined up for a big chain
reaction, it's just in general it's a bit much now. Mixing in
non-explosive barrel types and reducing explosion radii in general
would probably make things better.)

You almost had everything you needed 🙂.

Uh true ;-). How did you like it BTW?

Yeah, a rapid chaingun is not bad. But it's practicaly useless (IMHO)
against the Cyberdemon, who has an armour of 4 ;-).

Well uh, it would be a hard fight anyway -- you only had a chaingun working,
and the chaingun is practicaly useless against the Cyberdemon. Just think
about it -- 5*(1d6-4) isn't much :-(

Uh, okay ;-).

This will be worked upon ;-). As for now I just compiled DoomRL under Linux
:-D. There are a few nasty bugs still that need polishing there...

Btw. is it 5*(1d6-2) or 5*(1d6-4)+2 with 2 levels SoaB? I somehow have
the feeling it is the latter.

Ergh? You mean that the damage against Cyber is:

- pistol 2d6-4 = 1d6-2 + 1d6-2 = (001234)+(001234)= on avg. 10/6 + 10/6 =
on avg 3.33 ?
- chaingun it is 5*(1d6-4) = 5*(000012)= 5* (3/6) on avg. = 2.5 on avg?
- dbl. shotgun it is (2*4d4) - 4 = 2*4* [1d4-1] = 2*4* (0123)=8*6/4 on avg
= 12 on avg?

If it is even approx. true then your damage mechanics is *very* broken.

Actully its 5*(1d6-2) ;-). Each bullet is completely independant.

It is. And it was intended that way. What's so bad about it?

I suspect it's random rather. If not then give me a reasoning behind this.

What's so bad - I suppose it makes no sense, why shotgun is 5 times more
effective against heavy armor than chaingun and why chaingun is suddenly
worse than pistol etc. There is no logic behind. If you look at Crawl code
for example you will see reasoning hidden in any aspect of game mechanics,
it's what makes game consistent and attractive - you cannot cheat game
easily by taking three dbl shotguns or you will not be surprised to know
that hand pistol is more effective to boss than so called "gatling gun".
