I have a pre-built system that I have been gaming on for quite some while now, that was finally ready for a gpu upgrade. I bought a gtx 1070, but wasn't smart enough to notice that it required a 8 pin connection, and my psu only provides dual 6 pin pci-e connections. BUT one of those 6 pin connections (the one that was attached to my previous gpu) has double the wires connected to it than it is supposed to. There are 6 yellow wires attached to the top of the connector, and 6 black ones to the bottom. Does that mean that this should be okay in delivering the correct amount of power to the gpu, and I could simply plug my 6 pin connector in to the 8 pin receptacle on the gpu?

I have a 500w psu, Allied AL-D500EXP

Yellow is for +12v and black for - minus but you need to connect all of them to GPU so it can spread the load over other VRMs on it, otherwise it may burn something on it. Better get an adapter from 6 to 8 pin.
