Hi, Yesterday I went to click on my photo file which has all my photos from as far back as 2006 and I clicked the mouse button fast and the file was gone. I hope I can recover it. It's all of my family photos. The file is on an external hard drive and not my computer. Please help.

Thank you,
Kathy

generally speaking... what you said is not possible..no matter how fast you "Double clicked"

so perhaps you made a mistake.. right clicked and then accidentally v fast left click and coincidentally that whit the delete option.. but even then - you have to confirm...

Or perhaps you have some malware that deleted the files... perhaps something that wipes drives... I doubt it,, but may be..

Or perhaps your drive just failed/corrupted...

Best thing you can do is to get someone who knows what they are doing to take a look... you have not provided much useful info in your question to make me think you know what you are doing.. or could even provide useful info to help us diagnise remotely... you need someone who knows to take a look.. you have any PC knowlegable firends?

But DONT MESS with it if you dont know what you doing... if it is recoverable.. and you mess.. you could destroy any chnace of recovery.

And I know this is "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted"... but dont you have a backup???? precious stuff like this that cant be replaced... EVERYONE shoul dhave a backup!!!!... no excuses!!!

Good luck.
Cheers

If you remember a file or folder name, search for it. You might have moved the photo folder to another folder by accident. And backup your photos to another disk or at least burn it to a DVD! It is not the question if, but when your external drive will fail.

if you do not see it in your Recycle Bin, you can:
Go into the "Computer" icon.
Right-click on the portable drive where the file was 'deleted'
Select "Properties"
Then select "Previous Versions"
Then double-click on one of the Previous versions for that drive
Find the folder where you had the files nad you can you can drag it to your desktop or anywhere else to restore them.

If nothing shows in "previous versions" then you did not have it turned-on for that drive.

I checked the recycle bin right after it happened. There was nothing in previous versions and I didn't get a delete message. The file just disappeared. The hard drive has the same amount of space available which makes me hope it's still on the drive. Thank you for your replies.

Hi has the same thing.....Press START then enter FOLDERS .....search them all .... mine turned up in my C drive
