So I own a pretty awesome 24 inch LG full HD monitor. Despite its awesomeness, playing games in full HD does tend to be laggier.

I'm contemplating actually downgrading my monitor to this: http://images.craigslist.org/00V0V_fdbNLC9aRER_600x450.jpg

I found this for 20 dollars on craigslist, it has a DVI-D port so i have nothing to worry about.

However he says he doesn't know the resolution. I searched on google for hours and finally found what type of monitor and resolution it is: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Ultrasharp-1600x1200-Monitor-Height-Adjustable/dp/B000UVDONY

correct me if I'm wrong but I think those 2 monitors are the same.

My question is:

Will I hugely regret this: will 1600x1200 be noticeably uglier than 1920x1080?

Will I get a noticeable improvement in FPS in games like arma or skyrim:?

My pc:

i3 2100
GTX 560ti 1gb
4gb ram

The problem is that your GPU is trying to push that high resolution and it is a GTX 560ti, a pretty low end old card. If you would just lower your game resolution to 1280 x 720 in the game options you would not have that lag and low FPS.

You might as well save your money and buy a new GPU with at least 4GB of ram if you wan to push 1080p Skyrim and get at least 8GB of ram in your system and your running an i3.

Minimum recommended to game IMO:

i5 processor
8GB of ram
at least a 2GB video card

Your question is actually one of aspect ratio. Do you prefer 4:3 or 16:9? The wiki page for aspect ration has an example image in both forms so you can identify what you are missing/gaining.

i use msi afterburner, to overclock like 50 mhz more on the core and overall clocks.

However I notice my temperatures easily rising above 80 celcius, i"m not sure how bad that is.
