Question Download speeds are very slow with an ethernet cable. Getting 100kbs everywhere I try to download things from.

Just recently reset my PC and whenever I try to install things, I only get up to 10-100kb/s. It's very strange and I have no clue why it's doing this. If anyone can offer me some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. My speedtest.net results.
I can provide more information about my setup or whatever you need. Just looking for some help to see if it's just my PC or something else.

Upon further testing, downloading Steam games I have zero issues. Currently downloading at 8.8 MB/s
But everywhere else it's still 100kb/s.

why did you reset windows? any other problem before this ?

update chipset drivers
update lan/ethernet driver
check if windows network connection is set to private and not public
try a different ethernet cable
restart router where you plugged in the ethernet cable

I reset windows for this reason specifically. Other than that, there were no issues.
Chipset drivers are updated.
Lan & ethernet drivers are also updated.
Tried two, same results unfortunately.
And of course, this was the first thing I did.

I am aware. I am not getting 89mbps, I am getting 100kb/s download speed everywhere else besides Steam.
The reason I linked my speedtest results was to show that I am supposed to be getting more than 100kb/s but I'm not.
 
What's your subscription speed in Mbps? Which ISP plan? How much did you pay for it? Please show the web page link.

As I said, 89.7Mbps = 89700 kbps, it's way over 100 kbps. That's your download speed.
M = Mega = 1 million. K = kilo = 1000. Please understand the unit.

Steam download speed is another story. You will never get consistent download speed from Steam. You Steam experience is the same as millions of other steam users.

So what exact location are you only getting 100kbps. How are you determining that it is only 100kbps.

Both your speedtest results and steam show that you are getting just under 90mbps. You have 2 completely different applications that show you are getting proper download rates. Steam runs its own app and speedtest is browser based app. This likely means your internet connection, the basic networking in your house and even the basic networking in the pc are fine.

Your goal is to figure out what is different on the locations that work and the ones that do not. It could be a limit or technical issue with the site you are downloading from. You can check for software running on your machine that might be limiting. These are normally some kind of so called "gaming" network accelerator or some kind of QoS software. You want to uninstall anything like that.

On my browsers, Opera, Edge, Firefox, Chrome. Tested all of those and no matter what I download, it barely is consistent with getting 100kbs.

As far as I know, I have nothing installed on my computer that limits my network. Where would I check for that? It's not in my app list if that's the case.

I am on a residential plan in my apartment, local place. It's supposed to be 100mbps. And it was, until recently.

Please give us a screencap of whatever is telling you this "100kbps".

Yep, that's what I have according to my ISP, but I am not getting anywhere near those speeds ANYWHERE as you can see in those images.
 
Please, kb <> KB

lower case "b" means bits, upper case "B" means Bytes - 8 bits. If encoding is included it will be 10 bits. The number you get have to multiply with a 10.

Besides, www.speedtest.net uses multi-threads to test your download, that is it's downloading probably 4-8 files at the same to your PC to test the internet speed. The nvidia website test number you get is the speed you get while downloading one big file. It's completely different.

937 KB/s here is 937 K bytes/ not 937 k bits

as I said if encoding calculation is included (x10) it's about 9370 kbits/s usually marked as 9370kbps or 9.37Mbps, which is possible/quite common because usually websites will do some traffic control. They don't want one visitor consume too much bandwidth which makes other visitors getting bad experience.

The test result you get from www.speedtest.net showed that you are getting what you paid for. It's the websites you were visiting doing the bandwidth/speed control. You have no control over this kind of situation.
