Hi,
I've got an old Intel DP965LT motherboard. Today I bought and installed a new video card and a new powersupply. (Asus GTX-750TI OC 2GB and Corsair CX430W builder series PSU)
My system specs:
ram: 4x1gb pc2-5300 (667mhz) ddr2 in dual channel
cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo stock speed 2,4ghz
hdd: 186gb total capacity, as old as motherboard (7 years old)
dvd drive: old
fans: stock fan in case, no additional fans
gpu fans: 2
gpu: read above - not overclocked manually - yet!
directx v: 9.0c
os: windows xp pro 32 bit (only 3,25gb ram can be seen due to 32bit OS)
Here's one of my problems
what I did:
- I didn't really apply much updates I just downloaded SP3 then disabled automatic updates.
- I downloaded .NET 4
- I downloaded basic chipset drivers
- I downloaded GTX-750TI gpu driver from geforce.com
- I downloaded fraps
problem is:
In order to test 3D performance I downloaded a game which requires not much GPU power and it ran at 40-50 fps only...and after I pressed "recording" FPS immidiately dropped to 0 and 1.
Something's not right here...could it be the PSU? oO Everyone told me CX430 would work well with Asus GTX750TI OC 2GB...It has 28 amps on the +12v rail it's more than enough I think.
Why can that be then?
Here are my other questions!
1. Should I upgrade to Windows 7 considering I've got a really awesome mid-category video card? Any benefits from going Win7 from XP (in terms of gaming performance - fps)?
2. Is buying a new (high-end or mid-category) motherboard a good idea despite the fact that most of my other PC components are outdated excluding PSU and graphics card? (My CPU, HDD, DVD drive, RAM are outdated and really awful)
a.) If you recommend it, would I be able to still use my old CPU, HDD, DVD drive and RAM on the new mainboard? Are they backward compatible? Wouldn't they get permanently damaged?
(I don't have money for new cpu, ram, hdd and dvd drive...)
b.) Would there be a (gaming) performance increase if I only upgraded motherboard?
c.) If you don't really think upgrading mainboard only is a good idea then could you give me ideas as to increase gaming performance slightly? (For example, suggesting a RAM upgrade is not a great idea because DP965LT mainboard only supports a maximum of 8GB ddr2 667 mhz OR 4gb of total ddr2 800mhz ram 🙁((( )
