DPC Watchdog Violation repeated crashes

Started on Saturday, right after my system ran the latest Windows 8 update (not sure if that has anything to do with it). It's crashed 3 or 4 times since then.

I ran a memory test and a temperature test - both were OK. Updated all of my drivers - system still crashes.

Update: Found the following error message in the memory dump file:

BugCheck 133, {0, 501, 500, 0}

*** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for nvlddmkm.sys -
Page 1278dc not present in the dump file. Type ".hh dbgerr004" for details
Probably caused by : dxgkrnl.sys ( dxgkrnl!DpSynchronizeExecution+af )

Update: Still having the same problems.

My guess is that it is related to the MS Windows 8.1 update on Saturday.

If that is the case, would upgrading to Windows 10 solve the issue?

I've tried rolling it back to the Restore Point before the Win 8 update, but it fails, telling me that it cannot complete the rollback to the restore point.

Uninstall Gigabyte On/Off. It's a known cause of crashes and the drivers are also 6 yrs old

Disable AMD Overdrive. This is also 6 yrs old. So are your sata drivers

Your Nvidia drivers are crashing.

Why is AMD overdrive installed (Isnt it part of AMD video drivers) if your Nvidia drivers are crashing

Chrome maybe the main cause of this crash

I had just run into the same issue as well, the cause for me was most likely the recent Windows 8 update. I was getting the BSOD almost every hour yesterday, today I used system restore to a point right before I installed those updates. I've had my computer up and running for about 5 hours and no BSODs. I'm confident that the issue for me was the Windows 8 update.

Fixed it.

My PC wouldn't let me restore it to a restore point.

However, I deleted the most recent Windows Security Update (from last Saturday)

Control Panel ->Uninstall a program ->View Installed Updates

...and it's been working perfectly ever since. An FYI for anyone else who's been having trouble since the most recent Win 8.1 update.

My PC wouldn't let me restore it to a restore point.

However, I deleted the most recent Windows Security Update (from last Saturday)

Control Panel ->Uninstall a program ->View Installed Updates

...and it's been working perfectly ever since. An FYI for anyone else who's been having trouble since the most recent Win 8.1 update.

I started getting BSODs on January 15th with the same "dxgkrnl!DpSynchronizeExecution+af" memory dump error code as well. I've done everything from updating NVIDIA drivers to flashing the BIOS and it's still the same, so I'll try this and post if it works. Did you just use process of elimination to determine that the specific security update was the culprit?

Update: Haven't had a BSOD since deleting the latest Windows Security Update. Problem seems to be solved

I've been getting this BSOD for the past several days too. I've tried uninstalling the update from the 20th. I'll come back in a day to report if it worked or not.

Well, I thought deleting the update had worked, since I got no crashes yesterday. Just had one now, though. Back to the drawing board...

Check your Windows update history. It may have reinstalled the update automatically.

Sounds like your display drivers are a complete mess. Do the first 2 things Paul suggested, you should never have utilities for the wrong hardware installed. I would consider booting into safe mode and using Display Driver Uninstaller to clean out any nVIDIA as well as ATI/AMD dispaly drivers (may have to boot into safe mode a 2nd time to do the AMD/ATI ones) , then booting into normal Windows and installing the correct display driver.

Thanks for updating us. I tried this method and it seems to be working well since I have not had the DPC Watchdog error since. I believe this update must have been the cause of all of the random freezing mid-game and blue screen. However every time I try to shutdown my computer it is replaced by an update and shutdown sort of message and I don't want that update to install again. Is there a way to block this update specifically? It installed again last time and I had to uninstall again which takes some time.
