Drive not being recognised

I tried to put a old hard drive from an old computer to a new computer but it is saying there is no operating system. The hard drive does have an operating system (windows 7) I don't know why it is not working please help

you have to change the boot order in the bios so its booting from the correct drive.

that being said, dont expect it to boot very well, considering windows 7 is tied to the old motherboard that it came from.

Your old Hard Drive has an OS w/ drivers from the computer it came out of. The computer you are putting in in has, I expect, has different . Doing what you are doing, once recognized, will have the OS trying to load hardware for drivers that aren't there and it won't find drivers for hardware that is there. This = FAIL.

If you want a trouble free OS on your computer, wipe the hard drive and do fresh install.

What if I upgrade the drive to windows 10 on the computer it was on originally on and then put it in the new one?

Windows 10 exists only as an equivalent to a OEM license..... if you take retail Win 7 you could install it 20 times w/o issue as long as it was on only one computer at a time.... **upgrade** to Win 10 and you lose that right, Win 10 is forever tied to the machine it's installed on no matter what you upgraded from .

you need to do a fresh install of windows, on the pc you want to use the drive with.

you cant install windows on one pc, and then move drives.

Is there honestly no way to put the drive in this pc. I wanted to test it before migrating it to an ssd to use

yes there is. purchase windows, format the drive, install it in new pc, and install windows.

So if I buy windows in like a disc and put the ssd into the computer it will load the new os and then I can transfer the old data to the ssd?

yes just backup your data before formatting the current drive.
