My friend dropped her Lenovo laptop and now the hard drive is not showing up anywhere (BIOS, Disk Management, My PC).

I have a working hard drive that I use as a control to make sure the SATA to USB cables are functioning properly, as well as her laptop. I am sure the problem exist's in her hard drive, at this point I am trying to recover the files.

When I apply power to the hard drive it sounds the same as the working control without any clicking.

After attaching the sata cables, plugged in the USB, and applied power I searched for the drive in my PC and Disk management. Still no signs on the "defective" hard drive (control still works for these steps).

At this point is there anything else I can do to recover these files?

Solution
Physical damage from the drop sounds like it's killed it (at least for 'at home' recovery).

If it's not appearing within disk management (or the BIOS?), there's not too much you can do.
Some tools claim they can assist, and they might - but you also risk doing further damage.

If there's irrecoverable data on the drive, this would be the time to contact the professionals - it likely won't be remotely 'cheap' though.

If your friend can live without the data, chalk it up to a learning experience and ensure there's a frequent backup schedule put in place.
